About
Edward Street Gallery will be opening soon
We envision a world where photography serves as a bridge for understanding, connection, and empowerment. Our exhibitions aim to explore Blackpool through socially engaged photography that listens, connects, and creates space for community stories.
Mission:
Our goal is to reshape the perception of Blackpool, moving beyond its image as just a destination. We highlight its essence as a home, a workplace, a repository of memories, and a vibrant community. Through our exhibitions, we examine the everyday life, identity, resilience, and relationships that define the town, with a particular emphasis on female perspectives, lived experiences, and acts of care.
Core Beliefs:
Empowerment Through Art: We believe in the transformative power of photography as a tool for conversation, fostering dialogue and understanding. Our approach is collaborative, engaging residents, community groups, and individuals to ensure that the work is deeply rooted in lived experiences.
Celebrating Unseen Labour: Our program acknowledges the often-invisible work, especially by women, that sustains communities. We honour women's historical roles as artists, caregivers, landladies, organisers, and community leaders. Through photography, we aim to shine a light on both visible and hidden forms of care.
Community as Collaborators: We are dedicated to creating opportunities for communities to shape their own narratives. Our partnerships focus on themes such as identity, environment, nature, care, social change, and more.
Program Offerings:
Solo and Collaborative Exhibitions: We present significant bodies of work by individual photographers while encouraging collaborative projects with local communities.
Community Engagement: We provide platforms for sharing photographs, memories, and stories through community exhibitions, conversations, and events.
Historic and Contemporary Dialogue: Our archive and memory projects juxtapose historic photographs with contemporary experiences, enriching the narrative of Blackpool.
